Who Am I?

For the past two decades I have built a life and career on a very simple creed, a creed that was eloquently captured by Will Smith during an interview about his success:

If you’re not making someone else’s life better, then you are wasting your time.”

I’m Scott Phillips, a registered Marriage Celebrant, professional Master of Ceremonies (MC) and dad to two gorgeous girls. I’m really a dog person, but a 12-year-old cat named Morgan has somehow managed to turn me into one of her minions.
In early 2010, a friend asked me to MC their wedding. I had a fantastic time doing it and the father of the bride pulled me aside and told me to try Toastmasters as I seemed to have a knack for public speaking. At that same wedding a guest thought I had done such a great job that they asked me to MC their wedding too.
Throughout the course of the next twelve months I established myself at Toastmasters and competed in the International Inspirational Speech Competition and came 1st Place in the District.  At the same time I found myself frequenting more and more weddings as MC (including my brother's), only to find myself one day in front of a crowd of strangers and not knowing the bride and groom. There in the middle of the Hunter Valley it dawned on me that I was having fun doing something I loved, making people happy and that *insert head scratch here* maybe there is a business in this.
Over 100 events later including various Rotary Functions, Festivals, Charity Balls, a car launch (Lamborghini Aventador) and weddings . . . here I am.  LOVING EVERY MINUTE OF IT and looking for the next step.

Having attended almost 6 years’ worth of ceremonies, I came to realise something – they were all the same. Sometimes the words were slightly different, and there was always different music, but there were few other variations. The celebrant always said things in the same order, always reading from the same lines, never really showing any personalisation.

And I thought, there has to be a way to make the ceremony enjoyable for the couple and their guests!

So I decided to put my money where my mouth was and threw my hat in the ring! At around the same time I was getting my celebrancy qualification I met Keira, my partner. She’s a writer, so I enlisted her help with writing my first ceremony. Since then Keira has become more and more involved in my MC and celebrant life, and together we work with you to create your dream wedding.

We believe that every event, whether it is a wedding ceremony, wedding reception, a corporate function (even a Christmas party), a charity event, an expo or trade show, will be a Moment of Truth. A moment that will form memories, bonds and goodwill that will carry a lasting impression.

As a Celebrant I believe in creating a magical, memorable ceremony that will be remembered for years to come, and to do that I ensure each ceremony is unique and tailored to the couple, who they are individually and as a couple.

A good MC will not just introduce speakers, but will facilitate, collaborate and add a level of professionalism to your event. This is what I believe and deliver in every engagement.

Coupled with my MC work I have also found joy in helping others step past their fears of public speaking. Through my mentoring, coaching and speech writing, I have seen many people empowered to spread their message and share their stories.

The role of Master of Ceremonies has been sold short by so many and I have made it my mission to put the mastery back into being a Master of Ceremonies.

Whatever the need, I am sure that we can help you to make your life, your occasion, your event that experience you want it to be.

 Thank you,

Scott Phillips
